Company crisis for Factory, in Fucecchio. The Tuscan company specialised in leather clothing and owner of the DROMe brand is risking liquidation, and is currently unable to pay salaries to its 40 employees. On 17 May 2023, “at the crisis unit table at the Region of Tuscany, we learned that the company, following a request for an arrangement with creditors opened on 28 March with a prospect of continuity,” say trade unions Filctem CGIL, Femca Cisl. Uiltec Uil, “has officially announced the withdrawal of the same and the filing of a petition for judicial liquidation with provisional financial year”. When contacted by us, the company would not comment on the news.
Factory risking liquidation
“More than 40 workers and entire families are in a very difficult situation, because they have not been paid for two months now,” the unions comment. And they specify that social safety nets would not be active at the moment. “The problem of Factory,” as reported by the newspaper La Nazione, “emerged in recent months, when a dismissal procedure was opened, which, following discussion with the unions, was withdrawn. Then, there was a request by the company for an arrangement with creditors”. A request linked to “a recovery plan that was supported by prospective elements that unfortunately have faded away, exacerbating the problem”.
Lightning strike
For readers of La Conceria, Factory is a well-known. Over the years, we have written about celebrities dressed in their leather garments (from Lady Gaga to Vasco Rossi and Måneskin). Less than six months ago, in November 2022, we announced the five-year agreement signed with Bikkembergs for the production and distribution of its men’s and women’s lines. Finally, in January 2021, Factory, led by Ferrero Rosati (pictured right with his daughter Marianna, creator of DROMe), acquired the historic French luggage manufacturer Moreau Paris.
