Micam, Mipel, TheOne: first impressions

The fairs start with a good flow during peak hours. Today (Sunday, February 23), Micam (footwear), TheOne Milano by Micam (fur), and Mipel (leather goods) opened their doors at Fiera Milano Rho. They will remain open until Tuesday, February 25, along with Milano Fashion & Jewels (which started yesterday), while waiting for Lineapelle to open on Tuesday as well, completing the group of trade shows linked to Confindustria Accessori Moda. Exhibitors appear optimistic and believe that the worst may be behind them, although recovery won’t be immediate.

First impressiows at Micam 

The 99th edition of Micam kicked off this morning, hosting 853 brands: 415 Italian and 438 international, from 28 countries. Sunday is traditionally dedicated to Italian retailers, though an interesting presence of foreign buyers was noted.  “We started with many concerns, but even though it’s only the first day of the fair, I’ve sensed a positive mood among buyers,” says Laura Lupetti (brand La Bottega di Lisa). “The start has undoubtedly been better than a year ago. The importance of Micam? We manage to establish contacts in markets where our commercial network doesn’t reach.”

Impressions from Mipel 

Alongside Micam, the 127th edition of Mipel is also underway. The event features over 200 brands presenting their proposals for the Fall/Winter 2025/2026 season, just like in the footwear sector.  “The fair remains important, and we have noticed a certain level of interest from visitors,” says Roberto Briccola, CEO of Bric’s. At the event, the luggage specialist is presenting for the first time in Italy its collaboration with Porsche Design.

The takeaway from the first day 

Overall, the mood among exhibitors at the start of the fair has been quite positive, exceeding expectations. However, an underlying uncertainty remains due to the constantly evolving geopolitical situation, which has the potential to rapidly shift market dynamics.
