Pitti has called off its exhibition, scheduled in September. Actually, it has postponed all fair events (Uomo, Bimbo, Filati, Fragranze and Super) until January 2021. “It has been a sorrowful decision, inevitable though”, commented Claudio Marenzi, president of Pitti Immagine, after the meeting with the board of directors, who decided (yesterday, 4 June 2020) to postpone the event.
Pitti calls off September fair
Pitti Immagine board of directors decided to cancel and postpone all physical fair events, including, among others, Pitti Uomo, formerly scheduled in June and subsequently moved to September 2-4. Nonetheless, they keep striving hard to support and foster digital fairs. “The board of directors acknowledged that, owing to companies’ ongoing difficulties, the number of participating players would be insufficient”. Hence, “their decision to postpone all physical fairs until January 2021, therefore urging to focus, throughout the forthcoming summer, all energies and efforts on entirely digital exhibitions, open to the whole of exhibitors”. As they pointed out in a press release, “we can rely on the endeavours and investments we have carried out to launch our Pitti Connect digital platform”.
A long-lasting lack of certainties
As emphasized by Marenzi, their decision was also affected by “a long-lasting lack of certainties regarding European and governmental non-repayable economic support to foster participation in the fair events. We believed in the date to the very end”.
