Over 9,000 admissions for Simac Tanning Tech, with a significant share of attendance coming from abroad. The synergy with Lineapelle is working. What doesn’t work, but it’s not news, is the market. On the basis of these considerations, the 50th edition of the fair organized by Assomac nevertheless managed to draw a positive furrow.
The synergy with Lineapelle
Edition number 50 of Simac Tanning Tech (Sept. 17-19 at Fiera Milano-Rho) welcomed more than 9,000 operators, 44% of which came from abroad. Visitors viewed products from 316 exhibitors (26% foreign). Numbers that show interest and solidity. Merit – as stated in a note – also goes to the synergy with Lineapelle, held at the same time as the technology fair. “The collaboration made it possible to maintain high attractiveness and presentation of novelties throughout the supply chain, rewarded by the large participation in the organized events and the strong exchange of visitors between the two fairs”.
The award
To celebrate this synergy, Assomac honored Lineapelle’s CEO Fulvia Bacchi (in photo on the left) with an award. “In recognition of her constant work to promote the Italian leather supply chain, elevating it to a model of international excellence. Thanks to its commitment, the supply chain has reached new standards of quality and sustainability”, said Assomac’s Vice President Mauro Bergozza to explain the reasons behind the presentation of the ward during the gala dinner.
The market does not work
While the fair is working, the market slowdown can be felt. In the first half of 2024, there was an 11.55% decrease in the industry’s exports compared to the same period in 2023. Bucking the trend are exports of tannery machinery, which grew by 6.77%, thanks to orders accumulated in 2023. But, Assomac points out, more than three-quarters of exports were concentrated in just 10 countries, showing how the tannery machinery sector is in difficulty, just alike other sectors of the supply chain. Struggling slightly less is the spare parts sector, where there was a smaller drop in exports (down 5.52%) in all destinations.
Confident, even so
“Despite the general contraction of exports in the first 6 months of the year, we remain confident in the future of our industry”, commented Assomac President Maria Vittoria Brustia. “The leather-processing machinery sector has seen some encouraging signs. This shows that the quality of our technologies is still recognized and appreciated on international markets. We look to 2025 with optimism“.
