Kim Jones parts ways with Fendi. One by one, the rumors about luxury designers’ moves are becoming confirmed news. The British designer will remain within LVMH as he continues his role as the artistic director for Dior’s menswear collections. According to persistent rumors, Pierpaolo Piccioli could be his possible successor at Fendi.
Kim Jones Leaves Fendi
On the afternoon of Friday, October 11th, Fendi announced that Kim Jones (pictured left), artistic director of the brand’s women’s and haute couture collections, has resigned. He will now focus on Dior’s menswear collections. It’s possible that the growth of both LVMH-owned fashion houses made Jones’ workload too demanding. As a result, the designer seems to have chosen to focus solely on Dior.
At Fendi Since 2020
Jones had succeeded Karl Lagerfeld in September 2020. “Kim Jones is a highly talented designer who has brought his unique and multicultural vision to Fendi over the past four years,” said Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH, in a press release. The fashion house has not named a successor. “Fendi’s new creative organization will be announced in due course.”
Who Will Be the Successor?
Unlike the many (perhaps too many?) designers stepping down in recent weeks, Jones is not on the list of major designers looking for a new creative direction. Arnault clearly stated that his role at Dior is not up for discussion and that Jones will focus on that. But who will take over at Fendi? Industry insiders have little doubt. The frontrunner is former Valentino designer Pierpaolo Piccioli. The rumor surfaced at the end of September, first reported by Miss Tweed. It has never been denied by other sources, and now, with Jones’ departure, it seems to be further confirmed.
