An important brand provides confidence and certainty to those buying accessories. While the sought qualities for footwear are comfort and practicality. That’s what emerged from buyers that participated in the latest fashion week’s presentations for the upcoming summer season. .
What do they look for
In the leather handbags’ field large brands emerge victorious. “Clients are attracted by luxury brands they know, recognize and trust. They choose what is practical and durable, as if the purchase was an investment”, explains Elizabeth von der Goltz of Net-A-Porter to WWD. Purchasing trends have been focused on the most established luxury brand for over a year now. The consequence: buyers leave behind younger and more accessible brands, as these fall victim of a market that is now saturated.
It pays off to be contemporary
“As always, at a time of economic difficulty, there is an enormous opportunity for contemporary brands that are entry price”, confirms Eleanor Robinson of Selfridges. These brands created solid communication and consumers now feel close to these labels.
Handbags’ designs
Buyers indicated that, among the favorite designs, are the oversized shoulder bags created by Matthew Williams, at his debut with Givenchy. But Balenciaga’s elasticized hourglass model also fared well, along with the grab-and-go pochettes by Loewe and Dries van Noten. “Hippy style, oversize, acidic and metallic colors from the 80s will dominate the market”, commented Denis V. Evstafief of Fashionistas Concept, to MFFashion.
Footwear designs
Demand for seasonal products is decreasing, as is that for “less fashionable” goods. Clients look to comfort and practicality, As handbags are basic, soft and spacious, footwear also follow the same trend, as flat shoes are preferred to heels. Yet, the products must have personality, such as that of Balenciaga or Loewe’s monogrammed slip-ons, as well as Isabel Marant and Chloé’s gladiator sandals.
Priorities
“Comfort is clearly the priority for customers. Sneakers, sandals and more recently boots, have all shown solid growth”. Says Robinson to WWD. “Heels are now being worn at home more often, as the trend of home dinners and parties grows. If you can only invite 5 friends over and are always working from home, then why not wear a pair of fabulous heels? That’s why I believe that we will see an increase in “dressing-up” more elegantly for parties”, explained the director of the accessories’ segment of Selfridges.
