Habemus colour: for Pantone, 2025 will be the year of Mocha Mousse

Like every year, the wait is over. Pantone has chosen the colour for 2025: it is 17-1230 Mocha Mousse, a shade of light brown. In other words, that of a chocolate bar, coffee or cocoa. “Mocha Mousse is a soft brown, pervaded by a sensory and enveloping warmth. Driven by our need for small everyday pleasures, it expresses a form of indulgent reflection”, says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute.

Pleasure and sweetness

After the lively notes of Peach Fuzz, the colour of 2024, the Institute has focused on a shade of brown that recalls the culinary world and evokes positive feelings, while at the same time having a strong connection with the earth and nature, in search of authentic and essential values, both for the body and the mind. Sure enough, Mocha Mousse seems to be in line with predictions on next season’s trends, which see the definitive return of dark, neutral and sober colours, even in the wake of quiet luxury.

Even as a base

With its sophisticated yet understated elegance, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse can also be used as a versatile colour base, or combined with other shades to enhance a wide range of palettes, from the most minimalist designs to the most detailed. Its neutrality, among other things, makes it perfect in combinations with soft materials such as velvet or suede. Now in its 26th year, Pantone’s announcement of the colour of the year is a globally eagerly awaited event, precisely because it is capable of influencing trends, from fashion to interior design, from beauty to the technology world.

Where we have already seen it

For example, in the collections presented in Milan and Paris for autumn-winter 2024. Isabel Marant, Chloé, Ralph Lauren, Miu Miu, Burberry: these are just a few of the brands that, during the last fashion weeks, have declined a good deal of garments in colours that closely resemble Mocha Mousse.
