The style office grows: Gucci hires three more designers

Gucci’s style office is growing. The creative director of the Kering group fashion house, Sabato De Sarno, is introducing three key figures to his team. These are familiar names to insiders: Ian Waller will be in charge of men’s leather goods, Giovanni Battista Orsi of men’s clothing and Michele Romano of women’s clothing. As Fashion Magazine reports, the announcement was made internally to employees on 29 August.

Reorganisation of the style office

The reorganisation of Gucci’s style office certainly doesn’t come out of the blue. A change in the team structure was long overdue. The sharp drop in revenues, which closed the first half of 2024 with -20%, together with the transfer from Rome to Milan of the style headquarters, suggested yet another internal revolution. According to FM, Waller (who comes from Dior) will report directly to De Sarno. He will, as we said, be responsible for the collections for all the men’s leather goods, both for the fashion show and the collection.

While Orsi has been called into the company by the creative director, with whom he has already worked for a long time at Valentino, to develop the main menswear collection and manage the men’s celebrity projects. Finally, Romano, a consultant with experience at Costume National and Dolce & Gabbana, will collaborate with De Sarno and the team dedicated to the development of the womenswear collection.
