Assocalzaturifici and trade unions sign the CCNL

Here we go. After 7 months of negotiations, Assocalzaturifici and trade unions Filctem-CGIL, Femca-CISL and Uiltec-UIL, have reached an agreement to renew the sector’s National Collective Labor Agreement (CCNL), which will be valid from Jan. 1, 2024 until Dec. 31, 2026 and affects about 72,000 workers. “A renewal that makes the footwear sector more attractive”, commented Giovanna Ceolini, president of Assocalzaturifici (pictured right).

The signing by Assocalzaturifici and labor organizations

The renewal of the CCNL, the previous one expired on Dec. 31, 2023, includes wage increases. Minimum wages (Tem), referring to the fourth level, increase by 191 euros. The increase is divided into three tranches: 90 euros from next August 1, 2024, 51 euros from August 1, 2025, and 50 euros from August 1, 2026. Relative to the first level, the new agreement provides an increase in minimum wage of an additional 186.76 euros. This means that the minimum hourly wage will exceed 9 euros, or a total increase of 289.90 euros, disbursed as of January 1, 2025.

What’s New

The new collective bargaining agreement also includes significant innovations tied to welfare and combating gender-based violence. For example, it provides an additional paid month of leave, on top of what is already provided, for victims of gender-based violence. More generally, it enhances healthcare solutions for all workers. The renewal is among the first in Italy to financially protect workers should they become dependent.

The comment

“We are satisfied with the conclusion of this negotiation”, comments Giovanna Ceolini. “For the renewal, we aimed not only at salary increases, but also on welfare and social aspects, making our sector more attractive. We are confident that it will give a further boost to the restart of a sector that represents one of the economic engines of Italian manufacturing”.
