Luxury sneaker grows on all fronts: offers and average price increase without the consumer getting tired of it

Luxury sneakers are increasingly fashionable, so much so that consumers are willing to pay more to have them. According to an Edited research published on Fashion United, new proposals among luxury sneakers in the United States and the United Kingdom in the first quarter of 2019 have increased by 26% compared to the fourth quarter of 2018. Moreover, in the period January-March 2019, growth is up by 159% compared to the first quarter of 2016. The most sought-after luxury sneaker brands in the United States for men are Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Common Projects and Gucci. All of which have raised prices. Comparing the average price, we find that Alexander McQueen‘s went from 610 dollars in the first quarter of 2018 to 630 in the first quarter of 2019; Balenciaga from 741 to 872 dollars; Common Projects from 434 to 466 dollars and Gucci from 736 to 877 dollars. The trend has not saturated the market at all, quite the contrary: in the States 24% of new arrivals have sold out. Of this 24%, only one fifth was sold at a discounted price. At last, a look at the models. Chunky ones and high models are the trendiest, both in the USA and in the UK. In particular, the black and white “dad sneaker” by Alexander McQueen and Dsquared win, just as Balenciaga’s Speed ​​Trainer are still required. Speaking of sports footwear, on May 12 in Paris, “Sneaker Event” is celebrated, the largest sneaker event in Europe with over 30,000 models on display and for sale. Last year the event was visited by 10,000 people in the old Carrousel du Louvre site.
