Raf Simons has been choosing leather (too) for his new sneakers. The Belgian fashion designer (formerly appointed at Dior and Calvin Klein) has been in charge of his own brand since 1995. He is now about to launch on the market his new Runner footwear collection, which rests upon two features, rather evident indeed. The former: we are talking about training shoe models. The latter: they are leather shoes.
Something new, to some extent though
Actually, such models, recently created, are somehow a new interpretation of top classic shoes designed by Raf Simons. Looking back at their original variation, they still keep those names: SOLARIS, ANTEI, CYLON, ORION and 2001. Yet, he has reinvented them right starting from natural materials, such as leather (often suede). He is going to launch his new Runner collection during the fashion shows in Paris. Starting from January 18, buyers will find them in the fashion designer’s showroom, based in Paris.
A social preview
The Belgian designer himself announced the upcoming launch of his Runner collection on Instagram. These training shoes, pointed out Simons, are “an analysis focused on shape and function”. Therefore, after enticing sneaker-addicted customers by designing the Ozweego model, for Adidas, Raf Simons has been choosing leather (too) while launching a project that might possibly draw, for the umpteenth time, a “mob of buyers towards boutiques and stores”. At this point, they may well pass for collectors.
