280 hired by March 2019 Céline landed in Tuscany as announced by La Conceria in February. The project of the new plant in Radda in Chianti (Siena) has been officially presented with the inauguration of the first handbag manufacturing centre. The investment is 20 million euros, and the works for the construction of the new 5,000 square-foot production site will start next September (former Laca furniture factory, abandoned for years will host the new spaces). The facility will be ready in March 2019 and will employ approximately 280 artisans, as announced by Céline’s Chairman and CEO Séverine Merle and Céline Production’s CEO Pierre Yves Foucher. The brand already has a production plant in Greve in Chianti (Florence), a manufacturing centre came to fruition thanks to a 5-year collaboration agreement with the Tuscany Region. It will engage future development, training, Research and innovation projects. Cèline’s decision to invest in Chianti is related to the skills in the Tuscan leather district: “100% of our bags are made in Tuscany. Here we have the workforce and the savoir-faire that we need to grow again” Emphasized Foucher. Thirty young people have already been hired internally, which will rise to 90 by the end of the year.
