The source is the Italian backbone of the fashionnetwork.com website. And the news is such to create a stir in a sector like leather goods, despite being still just a “rumour”. So here’s the “bombshell”: Piquadro is apparently about to buy The Bridge, the Tuscan leather goods brand founded by Il Ponte Pelletteria in Scandicci (Florence), known for its collections of bags, cases and accessories in leather. “According to our sources – writes fashionnetwork.com – the Bolognese company is allegedly discussing the terms for the acquisition as part of an exclusive deal which may be closed within the space of a few weeks. As far as we know, in fact, Piquadro had almost finalised the deal, which moved into a stand-by phase in order to review the initial agreements due to the financial conditions of The Bridge”. Obviously a “no comment” ensued from both of the interested parties. The Bridge is going through a serious crisis and, after 3 years of redundancy arrangements, it announced 25 lay-offs last 26 July out of a total of 60 employees, together with the launch of the Special State Lay-Off Fund for companies in difficulty.
