You don’t hear stories like that, especially lately. Yet, it still happens that a company, in this case a leather goods company, closes the year with extraordinary results and chooses to reward its employees. All thirty-five of them. It happened in Florence, at Scuola del Cuoio (founded after World War II as an artistic workshop with charitable aims), which closes 2024 with turnover up by 25%, and a significant Ebitda of EUR 1,495.517. And the Gori family, who lead the company, decided to share this milestone with their staff.
A prize of 2,500 euro
It was “a record year”, the owners of Scuola del Cuoio admit in a press note. Especially considering the crisis in the fashion industry, and the general slowdown in consumption. This is why the heirs of Marcello Gori, who founded the company in 1950, have decided to award the 35 employees a production bonus of 2,500 euro net, paid in December’s paycheck. “This success”, says the School, “at a difficult time for the sector, we owe it to the commitment and performance of our master craftsmen, and to all those who work with us every day, feeling part of a team. We are proud of what we have built together with them”.
Boom of foreign customers
The Scuola’s activities, in addition to providing courses, as the name suggests, also focus on the sale of leather creations, accessories made in a handcrafted manner, according to Florentine tradition. “The growth has been affected above all by foreign customers, with the United States in first place”, they explain, “who are willing to wait almost seven months to have a Tuscan leather bag, handmade in Florence, and customised, being able to choose the colour, stitching, accessories and inner lining”.
