Tuscany, Desa announces a leather goods manufacturing site with 50 employees and 2,000 Sqm

Turkish company Desa announced a new leather goods manufacturing site in Tuscany. “To be closer to our clients – explains the CEO Burak Çelet –. We need to work day and night until the end of the year to be able to fulfill all orders from luxury enterprises. One of the leading brands at the moment has gotten the highest volume of orders of the last 15 years”. Burak is the sone of Desa’s founder, Melih Çelet. The company was created in 1972 in the women handbags’ segment. Today Desa makes apparel, handbags and accessories for women and men in two production sites. It also has a 20,000 square meters tannery in Çorlu.

Desa has some luxury brands within its client portfolio. In the company website we can read Prada, Miu Miu, Chanel and Armani, to cite a few. Desa plans on closing the year with 75 million euro in revenue. The company generates 10% of its revenue with its own brand (1972Desa) and manages some retail activities. During an interview with Dünya, Burak Çelet confirms how the luxury segment is to still feel any problem.

“We need to work day and night until the end of the year to be able to fulfill all orders”. Within this expansionary period, it makes sense that the company has decided to make an investment in Poppi (Arezzo), where the Turkish entity will begin producing handbags and leather goods in November. As said by the CEO to MF Fashion: “The 2,000 square meters site will give work to 50 artisans”. The structure will also allow the brand to be closer to its European luxury client and improve their service.

The development of the own brand

Desa has one production site in Istanbul and one in Duzce. The own brand is specialized in the leather apparel segment. “We want to bring its turnover quota from the current 10% to 50%”, explains Çelet, who wants to relaunch the leather collection and develop the wholesale channel in Europe. The brand is currently distributed in 80 retail points.
