Simac Tanning Tech kick-off responds to the “perfect storm” that is shaking global market (and not just that). Yesterday, 19th February 2020, the international fair for footwear, leather goods and tanning technology and machinery opened its 2020 edition. “We have started while being aware that we are facing the perfect storm – commented Gabriella Marchioni Bocca, president of ASSOMAC –. Besides the international health emergency, we are dealing with a difficult economic scenario: of course, we are all concerned about the situation. Yet, on the other hand, we are also striving hard to stand up against it and reward the valuable efforts of the companies that, despite difficulties, have been working painstakingly to take part in the fair today and present their own innovative products”.
First impressions
“Well, we have already prepared many coffees”, they say jokingly around the stands. At first glance, one can immediately realize that a vast majority of visitors from Asia have not turned up. Despite their absence, you can feel much interest along the aisles of halls 14 and 18. In fact, as remarked by a few exhibitors, some clients from the Far East cancelled their appointments. Chinese in particular. Yet, people leaving from the Indian subcontinent have joined the exhibition and have collected information about the new products presented by 324 exhibiting companies, coming from 25 countries.
Innovation Corner
Focus on research and experimentation at the Innovation Corner, a project developed by ITA AGENZIA in collaboration with ASSOMAC. The Corner is located at hall 18. The aim is to show the best solutions serving manufacturing industry and integrating Industry 4.0 technologies, aiming at higher sustainability, safety, energy efficiency and production scraps optimization. The Innovation Corner hosted some companies, most committed to innovation. In example given, Italian Leather Research Institute (SSIP), LIUC- Carlo Cattaneo University, Como NExT Innovation Hub and the ID-Factory. They also spotlighted the “Supplier of Sustainable Technologies” project, by ASSOMAC, based on the Green Plate, a voluntary certification tool that specifies the energy and environmental performance of machinery, in terms of greenhouse gas emissions.
