Golden Goose shoot back accusations: “We are not glorifying poverty at all! We are the forerunners of distressed look”

After facing lots and lots of accusations, posted in the internet, of “glorifying poverty”, Golden Goose decided to act in line with a low-profile demeanour, presumably not to feed further controversies and gradually soften the case. Just for the records, social discussion has been aroused by the edition of Superstar Taped, a new shoe model, newly presented by the Italian brand with kind of “used” effect: toe and heel, for example, are being patched by using adhesive tape. What is the gist of the matter? Such sneakers are for sale at 500 US dollars: that’s why it looks like sort of a “glorification of poverty”, or even a mockery to some extent. Golden Goose have made a public announcement published by US magazine: “Our company proudly emphasizes its peculiar role as a forerunner of distressed look, which proves to be one of the most popular fashion trends nowadays – points out the company in their press release –. As for adhesive tape stiffening strips, placed on the Superstar sneaker shoe model, they are a tribute to the West Coast skateboard culture: some professional skaters have inspired the brand’s footwear collections since the beginning, as they used to repair and patch their shoes by using the same tape”.
