By 2022 Hermès will create its second leather workshop in the Ardennes. It was announced by the fashion house, thus confirming a rumour that has being around for some months now. On Friday October 4th, top management of Hermès announced the beginning of works to expand production in the French region. Which means the opening of a second factory in the industrial park located between Tournes and Cliron. Municipalities not far from which the company is already present (since 2004) with the Bogny-sur-Meuse leather workshop.
Internal training, of course
Construction work on the new laboratory should be completed by 2022. Bags and leather accessories will be produced inside. This will be done by the 250 new employees that Hermès expects to hire and then train internally during a course that should last 18 months. “Based on local partnerships, in particular with government employment agency Pôle Emploi, the new production site confirms Hermès bond with the Region – reads a note -. It will also be in line with the group’s sustainable development objectives”.
Zero impact
Which are the goals? “Full control on energy consumption and innovative technologies to reduce the carbon footprint. And then: a high quality work environment, respect for the biodiversity of the site and the fusion with the landscape are all key aspects of the project”. At the end of the hiring process, Hermès will have about 500 employees in the Ardennes.
