Italian luxury industry stronger than foreign ones. However, in 2016 growth slows down (Pambianco study)

Luxury overtaking. Gucci surpassed Prada and won the second place on the podium of the top range of Scrooges Mc Duck. In the last two editions of the classification of turnover and profitability of luxury groups drafted by Pambianco, hierarchies were inverted. In 2013 and in 2014 the brand of Miuccia Prada was the closest to the top. In first place, however, there is now (as in the last two years) Luxottica. It was a good 2015 for the luxury Italian brands. Revenues of the 26 companies taken as sample from Pambianco grew by 9.4% on annual basis, from 36.679 billion to 40.136. EBITDA (19.4% compared to revenues) is in line with that of 2014. While still looking at the top of the ranking, Armani places fourth;  sixth place fo Otb (owner of the Diesel brand), and eighth for Ferragamo. The list of foreign groups (16.4% of turnover and 18.3% EBITDA) sees LVMH at the top, followed by H & M and Adidas; tenth is Hermès, Hugo Boss thirteenth, seventeenth Yves Saint Laurent. “The comparison is in favor of the Italian brands, stronger and with a higher position – comment the authors of the report – but for 2016 a lower growth of around 3-4 percentage points is scheduled, and profitability could drop by 1 or 2 points.”
