Louis Vuitton meets NBA: first capsule collection unveiled

Louis Vuitton meets NBA. The French brand unveils the first capsule collection made with the NBA logo. And leather occupies a prominent place. The National Basketball Association championship ended on Sunday, with LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers victory. Louis Vuitton has created the personalised case where the champion team will store the trophy, and at the same time the images of the collection designed by Virgil Abloh were released.

The three-year partnership between the French brand and the NBA dates back to early 2020. At the end of September, some images of a pair of light brown suede shoes with the two logos were circulating on the web. Today, however, the entire capsule collection (on sale from November 20) was unveiled, and it includes limited edition clothing, leather goods, accessories and shoes. The collection, writes WWD, takes inspiration from a player’s wardrobe and is divided into three sections.

One collection, three sections

First section: the travels, with casual garments like a grey cashmere tracksuit. Second section: supports the arrival at the sports facility, and includes some leather jackets, monogram jeans and T-shirts. Finally, the third concerns the post-match press conference, with more tailored looks. Various shoe models offered: from moccasins to sneakers, to boots.

Abloh

“Fashion muses are not predictable. Luxury ideas can be found in the sport’s world and its champions as much as in traditional art forms. This collection celebrates the cultural contribution of basketball and its different characters,” said Virgil Abloh (creative director of LV Homme) to WWD.
