The hype for leather pushes Loewe’s financials. The Spanish company (owned by LVMH), generated a revenue of 626 million euro in 2022 (up 36% from 2021). Profits amounted to 127.6 million (+87% on 2021). The creative director, Jonathan Anderson, is behind the increases. In fact, he was also on the short-list to take the place of Ghesquière in Louis Vuitton, but the brand ended up confirming Mr. Ghesquière.
Loewe’s financials
Loewe (founded in 1846), has been part of LVMH since 1996. In 2013, with the arrival of Jonathan Anderson, the brand undertook a path of strong growth, and revenue in 2022 amounted to 626 million euro. In the official documents, the company (which employs 337 people) received a 7-million euro dividend from subsidiary Manufacturas Loewe, the company that manages production activities. Expansion, which has published the news, specified that the data doesn’t cover all of the brands’ activities, but offers an image of its evolution.
The evolution
A positive and quick evolution brought on by Anderson. The stylist (born in 1984) is a protector of craftsmanship. “The luxury industry needs to change approach. It can’t present a concept of uniqueness and artisanship to describe a product that is mass manufactured”. He is also an outspoken supporter of leather. Given his success and philosophy, many had assumed he was going to take over for Nicolas Ghesquière, women’s creative director of Louis Vuitton. Ghesquière was rumored to be leaving after 10 years, but LV ended up confirming him. Indirectly, the decision leads one to believe Anderson will remain in his post at Loewe, thus continuing his path and lead the Spanish brand to further growth.
