Tod’s confirms the farewell to Walter Chiapponi. 22 September will be his last day at the creative direction of the brand. The designer will leave the brand after the Women’s collection fashion show in Milan. Who will be the successor? From the group they say “that it will be announced over the coming months”. It will be a key decision for the future of Tod’s, which drives the luxury group with the same name.
A separation “by mutual agreement”
So, shortly after WWD’s anticipation, Tod’s confirms the farewell to Walter Chiapponi. “Like Walter, we too will remember this experience in the best possible way”, commented Tod’s chairman Diego Della Valle. “We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people in the style office who work with great competence and attachment to the brand and the company, achieving excellent results”. For his part, Chiapponi (pictured right) used three words to summarise his thoughts: “Dedication, love and energy”. The designer described his experience at Tod’s as “extraordinary, human and creative”.
The who’s-next-game has begun
Who will be Chiapponi’s successor? The revolving door of creative directors proceeds at high speed. The Della Valle family could opt for an internal solution and fish out the creative director of Roger Vivier, Gherardo Felloni, or Daniel Roseberry of Schiaparelli (which is not part of the Tod’s group, but has been controlled by Diego Della Valle since 2007). He will certainly be a versatile and complete designer, at ease with footwear, leather goods and clothing for both men and women. As well as capable of continuing the revenue growth recorded by the group in 2022 and the first quarter of 2023.
