10 SHADES OF “NUDE” | To each her own

The inclusive idea of Kahmune: expand the “nude” tone range to combine footwear with a greater number of complexion. Italian leather and manufacturing for a project that gets it right

The idea is from London. The footwear manufacturing is 100% Italian. The 10 shades of “nude” by Kahmune are now a consolidated reality, signed by Jamela A Acheampong. Because, when talking about “nude” shades for women’s shoes, it is no longer understandable to use it only in light beige (or in a dark brown), following Christian Louboutin’s 2013 intuition, which led to the creation of pumps that cost more than 500 euro. Those of Kahmune do not exceed the average price of 200 euros for the pumps, exclusively made in Italy and, since 2016, they have built around themselves a market niche that is almost unique, because they offer women the opportunity to positively point out their diversity, highlighted by the tone of one’s skin, and to make it recognizable. If it’s true that the creative twist on which the brand is based came by looking at a picture of Kim Kardashian wearing a pair of nude pumps, which evidently did not match the brown complexion of her skin, Jamela A Acheampong has then started from a need lived first-hand: “I could not find nude shoes that matched my skin colour. I have a dark complexion, but all that was available online was for light complexions. I understood the business opportunity and I decided to start Kahmune”. The choice of Italian manufacturing is motivated as follows: “I wanted high quality and handmade products. Everyone knows that Italy produces some of the best shoes in the world, so for me it was an easy choice: Italian leather and Italian craftsmen”. For the spring-summer 2019 Kahmune has added, in addition to pumps, sandals, ballerina flats and leather mules, also suede and patent leather variants. The next goal is, as now happens with the most successful footwear projects, to expand its leather business model by including a collection of bags, rigorously declined in the 10 shades of “nude”. nuances, among other things, that from a commercial point of view turn into choices of extreme clarity. Kahmune footwear, in fact, can now only be purchased online with some exclusive exceptions such as New York, where an appointment can be requested for a personalized shopping session, and London, where the brand offers the possibility of private presentation events.

At the beginning was Christian

To launch the nude Mood was, in 2013, Christian Louboutin who, to the legendary and red sole, has associated 5 shades of nude-colour, brunging them to 7 in 2017. The first footwear able to match different nuances of complexion created by the French designer was the Christeriva model, a sandal with ankle ribbons and open toe, which emphasised Louboutin’s passion for the ballet, while the other model in nude was the Cherrysandal, with a double heel and with a more urban/chic style. despite his subsequent evolutions and declinations, Louboutin’s “nude” did not fit into other skin tones. Kahmune was able to satisfy this need.
