In the trade agreements stipulated between China and numerous African countries, one of the most active groups is Huajian, footwear manufacturer based in the southern province of Guangdong, in Dongguan. Huajian began investing in Ethiopia in 2011 and, according to that announced by Wang Yiyang, director of the Department for Research and Development in Guangdong, the group intends to create a new industrial park in Ethiopia by 2020. The footwear centre is set to employ at least 100,000 people. Between 2003 and 2015, the sales volume (import/export) between Guangdong and Africa rose sharply from 375.2 million euro to 5.78 billion, with African-made footwear among the most popular export.
