India, Uttar Pradesh legal slaughterhouses not up to standard are set for closure. Leather price rise

In New Delhi, police officers have shut down 26 out of the 44 licensed abattoirs. The association of meat traders announces unlimited strikes, accusing the government of Uttar Pradesh, a Hindu nationalist guide to camouflage behind business activities that interfere with the taboos of the sacredness of the cow. Times of India, however, adds that the wave of closures imposed in slaughterhouses in Uttar Pradesh and four other states is causing problems to the local tanning sector. The price of the raw material grew between 20 and 40%, increasing by 30-40% the crude import. The simultaneous fall in exports (-4.5% in January) and the inability to raise prices to customers puts Indian tanners shoulders in an awkward position.
