New Zealand, 4.000 bovines will be slaughtered to contain the mycoplasma infection

The majority of animals being talked about are diary-cows. But in the above-mentioned number are also included heifers, bulls, and calves. New Zealand is getting ready to slaughter 4,000 bovine animals, assets of 7 farms, to contain and (possibly) put an end to the spreading of the mycoplasma infection, which is hitting the nation’s livestock. The program approved by the government includes a period of decontamination before starting the repopulation process, and it has caused a political controversy. The various associations are criticizing the fact that it took too long to approve the intervention plan (from July 2017 to today). Estimates say that the slaughtering of 4,000 animals equals economic damage of 8 million USD. Authorities are not ruling out the possible need for additional slaughtering.
