The Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) has announced that domestic exports of leather and finished products fell by (-6.36%) between July 2016 and February last year to $ 8.2 billion. These data testify to a further adverse finding of a downward trend that seems to have no end. The future looks even darker. PTA fears that the result at the end of fiscal year – the next June 30 – will be even worse. From this situation, therefore, the protectionist’s demand that the tanners make to the government of Islamabad, accused of “low attention” by cancelling the 4% tax on import skins, favouring the influx of the products originating from China, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Brazil.
