The Chinese who make Ivanka Trump’s shoes are doubling their presence in Africa. Following Ethiopia they are to invest 1.5 billion dollars in Nigeria

Huajian Shoe Industry from Dongguan (China) is to invest a cool 1.5 billion dollars in Aba in Nigeria, to build a shoe factory with the capacity to produce 5,000 pairs of women’s shoes a day and to employ 10,000 people directly and indirectly. The Abia State Government will provide land and “other incentives”, while the Chinese shoe manufacturer, founded in 2006, will fund the entire project. Huajian currently employs about 20,000 people in China and produces about 10,000 pairs of shoes a day in the factory at Dongguan, while it has been present in Africa since 2011. To be specific, in Ethiopia, where it owns a factory of over a million square metres with 6,000 employees and where it has decided to invest 2 billion dollars in 10 years (2011/2020) to create an Industrial Park providing employment to over 100,000. Among other things, Huajian is known for producing the footwear brand owned by Ivanka Trump.
