Ah, now Bertelli talks about transitioning to alternative materials

The Prada group is working on a “solid transition plan for key raw materials”, including leather, to “lower impact alternatives”. Ah. Lorenzo Bertelli, Patrizio and Miuccia’s dauphin and CEO in pectore of the fashion group, tells MFF about the green strategies to which, as “head of corporate social responsibility”, he is devoting himself to. Precisely because of the position with which he joined the family business, the young Lorenzo often speaks in public about environmental initiatives: Prada is engaged in activities to protect forests, the oceans, and the recycling of plastics. This time, however, he said something that surprised us. And not positively.

Prada’s plan on materials

Let us reread Lorenzo Bertelli’s words, as reported by MFF. What is in the group’s sustainability goals? Many things, from the purchase of energy from renewable sources to the renewal of the company’s fleet of cars. And, also, “the solid transition plan of the main raw materials, such as leather, nylon and polyester, cotton, viscose, paper and cardboard, towards lower impact alternatives”. Anvedi, they would say in Rome.

We are used to hearing such stances from those brands or retailers (we are not naming names for the sake of charity) who, having never even integrated a manufacturing company, have no constraints in the real world and are free to roam the world of ideas (before banging their heads against reality, of course). What this means for a group like Prada, which has leather and shoe factories in its bosom and participates in the capital of tanneries and textile-clothing companies, we do not know precisely. And the possible answers, to tell the truth, are a little disturbing.
