In the United States, bovines have been remarkably increasing in number. According to data provided and made public by USDA (the United States Department of Agriculture), on April 1st the number of US bovines and calves reached 12 million units. They have been increasing by 2%, compared to 2018, therefore breaking any record since 1996. Steers and calves account for 62% of cattle units, that is, over 7 million animals, -1% compared to the previous year. As for cows, their number has been going up by 8%, in line with a trend that is turning rather regular at this point. For the records, US media recently spotlighted the bovine breeding issue after a fire partly destroyed, last 25 April, the buildings of a farming house run by Doris and Walt Kennel. The fire took place in Copenhagen, a small town situated in the State of New York. Due to the blaze, 550 animals, out of the overall 600 livestock units bred in the farm, died.
