Brazil, JBS invests 9 million for traceability in the Parà region

Multinationals are following the lead of presidents and prime ministers at COP28. Brazilian company JBS took advantage of the international event held in Dubai to announce a 9-million-USD investment in traceability within the Parà region. The program aims to extend transparency efforts to preserve the Amazon forest when dealing with the livestock industry.

9 million for traceability

The announcement of the traceability plan, which is aligned with an anti-deforestation strategy, was made by the governor of the Parà region: Helder Barbalho. The 9 million will be spent by JBS in a period of 3 years to bring the use of identifying tags for livestock. “The announcement of the Parà region represents a turning point in the fight against deforestation – said the CEO of JBS Global, Gilberto Tomazoni –. We offer our full support to the government’s efforts in this field”. In November 2023, JBS started a pilot project to identify individual animals, which is the first of its kind, in collaboration with Allflex and NGOs in Marabà (Parà). The goal is to extend the pilot to all agricultural enterprises supplying the Marabà plant directly.

The project

The company will support the project’s partners and the state in the process to start experimenting in calves’ farms, allowing for complete traceability of any unit from birth. Among the actions of the Green office program, there are also training initiatives and the regularization of thousands of producers. While with the Farm Grade 10 initiative, JBS will shift focus to small producers to optimize the performances of bovine livestock activities in Parà.
