Brazil’s leather segment sees the light in November 2020. A month in which sales of raw material showed a further increment compared to the previous month. But the improvement also shows when comparing the same month of 2019 to that of 2020. What emerges is, inevitably, a contraction for the total of the first 11 months.

According to SECEX (Secretariat of Foreign Trade) data, elaborated by CICB, Brazil exported raw, semi-finished and finished leather worth 102 million USD in the month of November. The volume in October was of 91.1 million, which means that the increment from October to November was of 11.9%. If we compare data from November 2019 to November 2020, the increase I of 21.8%, as the value for the former was of 83.7 million USD. On the other hand, the amount for the January-November period has so far been of 872.6 million USD (-19.1% compared to the same period of 2019).
In volume
The same trend is true for volumes. Brazil sold 17.4 million square meters of leather in November, up 15.3% on yearly basis. The increment from the prior month was of +8.3%. Yet, the contraction from the same period of 2019, shows a decrease of 9.1%.
Commercial relationship with italy
During the first 11 months of the year, Italy bought 16.2% of all leather sold by Brazil in terms of value and 19.6% in terms of volume. As far as wet-blue goes, on yearly basis, Brazil exported -20.2% in terms of value and -10.5% in terms of volume.
