It’s called UN Global Compact Network. The acronym is UNGCN and it’s “the world’s leading voluntary corporate citizenship initiative”, launched by the UN in 2000 to “promote sustainable development and good corporate citizenship”. Starting now, its supporters include Italian leather as well with UNIC – Italian Tanneries.
UNIC enters the UN Global Compact
The UN’s Global Compact collected, in 20 or so years, the membership of “over 15.000 businesses originating from 160 countries”, with the goal of “giving life to a new reality of global collaboration”. UNIC becomes a member and ensures its effort to follow the 10 key principles of the initiative, collected in 4 main areas. First: Human Rights. Second: Labor. Third: Environment. Fourth: Anti-Corruption.
A new step for UNIC
The entry into UNGCN is another step that UNIC takes towards a green direction, as well as a new challenge to be sustainable all-around. The decision comes just weeks after UNIC became part of the Terra Carta project, the SMI – Sustainable Markets Initiative, promoted by Prince Charles.
