Decreasing sales, problems in import-export: the crisis on the Chinese market wears out Curtume CBR. The Argentine tannery, based in Nonogasta, faces a period of financial difficulty, and for this reason up to 800 of the 900 workers risk suspension measures from work. According to the local newspaper Nueva Rioja, however, the most dramatic scenario shouldn’t be reached.
From China, from harbours
The first instability factor, we said, is the crisis on the Chinese market, the first reference point for Curtume CBR. The scenario, which was already difficult, has been worsen by Coronavirus epidemic. But this is not the only thing that makes time difficult for the Argentinian tannery. The company also suffered from the consequences of import/export restrictions applied to the harbours in the province: “It has 30 containers that it cannot clear customs”, says Nueva Rioja. This led to delays in deliveries, which led to problems in payments and, therefore, problems for the liquidity of the tannery. The provincial administration now promises simplifications in harbour procedures, to allow Curtume CBR to partially go back to normality.
