Reskin, Detox Leather, Ophelia and Leather between Wood and Technology are the four finalist projects of the Exploring Italian Leather Sustainability contest, promoted by UNIC – Italian Tanneries and Lineapelle in collaboration with Accademia Costume e Moda di Roma (Rome Fashion Academy). The project, which kicked off one year ago, went through a number of records, meetings with professionals, workshops and visits to some tanneries, aiming to “make students attending the Academy, on their year 3, aware of the culture of sustainability”, as pointed out by Knight of Labour Gianni Russo, President of UNIC and Lineapelle. Out of 11 projects, submitted by participants, the 4 finalist ones have been developed and carried out at Gucci ArtLab. They were presented at Lineapelle yesterday. There we go with their names and authors: Reskin, by Eleonora Di Girolamo (Conceria Russo di Casandrino); Detox Leather, by Benedetta Giunti (Conceria Bonaudo and L&G Holding); Leather between Wood and Technology, by Alessia Scasseddu (Conceria Sciarada); Ophelia, by Sofia Scarponi (Conceria Caravel / Essenzialmente Laura di Laura Bosetti Tonatto). It was a complicated journey for pupils, whose usual playground is creativity, who were compelled to deal with chemical, physical and manufacturing processes. Some tanneries, such as Antiba, Bonaudo, Caravel, Incas, Russo di Casandrino and Sciarada, actively participated in the project.
