4 tanneries in Addis Ababa have completed the construction of wastewater treatment plants as requested by the Environmental Protection & Green Development Commission of the capital of Ethiopia. As the local media explain, now Abyssinia, Awash, Batu and New Wing treat waste water through a process that involves the use of microorganisms to sanitise them. Soon three more should be added. Addis Ababa Tannery, Dire Tannery and Walia. The installation for the first mentioned tannery is in the pilot phase, that of Dire Tannery awaits the Commission’s approval, while Walia has begun construction work.
