Tanning operations in China. Simona Tanning (in photo) and Teh Chang Tannery announced a joint venture called Simona TC Company. The alliance will allow the two tanning groups to develop operations in China, Vietnam and Bangladesh, with a production capacity of 80 million square feet per year. The focus of activities will be on the footwear segment.
Joint venture
The company born from the joint venture will be led by Richard Pai and Marcelo Marder. The operation comes during a time of “grand change to the geopolitical and economic context for the footwear industry”, says the two managers (source: International Leather Maker). “We are convinced that we will need to start evolving business with more efficient methods to improve service to our clients”.
The numbers
With over 850 employees, Simona Tanning controls one tannery in Yangjiang, one in Zongshan and another in Dacca. In December 2022, it also started operations in Vietnam. Teh Chang tannery is headquartered in Taiwan and has production sites in Taiwan, China and Vietnam. The company is focused on producing leather for the global lifestyle and footwear markets.
