Leather supply chain says goodbye to Guido Lapi (77)

Guido Lapi passed away Jan. 16 in Santa Croce sull’Arno, where he was born and lived. Born in 1948, the entrepreneur was, for many years, at the helm of the Lapi Group, a Tuscan holding company active in the chemical tanning and leather industry with various businesses.

Passion for the tannery

The son of one of the founders of Lapi Group, Francesco, and grandson of Guido, founder of the company that has more than 70 years of history (hence the name Figli di Guido Lapi), joined his brother Roberto (current president of the group) at the helm of the company that now has eight companies, partly active in tanning chemistry and partly in other industrial sectors. Guido Lapi also found, 40 years ago, the Gi.Elle.Emme tannery (Ponte A Egola, San Miniato), which produces leather soles.

The generational transition

He had already retired to private life some years ago, leaving the leadership of the tannery to his grandson Tommaso Lapi, while his son Francesco (current vice president of Lapi Group) carries on the reins of the group’s Chemical Area. He leaves behind his wife Giuliana and children Guja and Francesco.
