1,000 from now to December and 1,000 in 2024: LVMH hires in Italy

LVMH hires in Italy and does it with large numbers: 1,000 from now to December and 1,000 in 2024, with about 280 different roles part of the spree. This could bring the number of employees of Metiers d’Excellence in Italy to 9,000. “But it’s difficult to find talent for our brands”, admits director Alexandre Boquel. “Artisanal roles are not even introduced in school. And yet, artisanship is Italy’s Silicon Valley”.

LVMH hires in Italy

LVMH is thinking ahead and is sure it will find 2,000 new employees by the end of 2024, even if challenges arise. This is the declared target, and the numbers support it, given 2 million people in Italy are unemployed. Yet, companies claim to be unable to find 1 million skilled workers. LVMH discussed the situation in Padova during the “You and ME” tour.

Ensuring the transfer of job roles

Chantal Gaemperle, head of HR at LVMH, “it’s essential to ensure the transfer of job roles making made-in-Italy craftsmanship unique around the world” (source Corriere Imprese Nord Est). But this doesn’t seem to have an impact on the schooling system in Italy. “Local schools talk about lawyers, doctors, engineers, but never about the achievements of artisans”, he says. Problems that make the goal of recruiting 2,000 people by 2024 even more difficult for LVMH. Not necessarily young workers, but also “reskilled adults”.

The context in Veneto

The context in Veneto is emblematic and the region accounts for nearly 20% of the manufacturing workforce of Italy. 4 out of the 31 LVMH’s manufacturing sites in Italy (Rossimoda in Vigonza, Christian Dior Couture in Caselle di Selvazzano and Fossò and Louis Vuitton in Fiesso d’Artico), employing about 2,000 people. And yet, according to a study by CGIA Mestre (reposted by Nordest Economia), in Veneto the challenges in finding skilled employees continue to exist: 200,000 vacant job positions are found in the region.
