Conceria Nuti Ivo’s Academy is back to educate (and hire)

“Given the good results of the first edition, we decided to bring back Conceria Nuti Ivo’s Academy”, said Valerio Perullo (in photo), BoD member and HR officer of Santa Croce sull’Arno: “This year we have focused our effort on the basis of the experience gained. We increased the hours and updated our methodology to provide even more tools”. This course, created in collaboration with the ADHR Group subsidiary in Santa Croce (employment agency selecting the candidates), is scheduled to take place from February 19th to March 8th. The goal is to train 18 technical resources with 104 hours of lesson. “These initiative was created because the tannery’s need to insert resources with technical skills capable of developing and applying their competencies throughout the manufacturing process – writes the company -, as well as being able to use tailored machinery and bring quality to the finished product”.

Working for the luxury segment

One of the attractive aspects of Conceria Nuti Ivo’s Academy is “specializing in the tanning processes for high-end brands: from Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Gucci, to Coach, Cartier and Longchamp”. These are just some of the clients of the tannery leading the initiative. “Young resources working in tanning have a lot of options and there are less and less around – commented Perullo -. There are many professions giving opportunities to work remotely, and artisanal ones have become less attractive”. Once they re-discover the tanning environment though, younger people become passionate. “We experienced it in last year’s edition”, testifies the manager.

Five hires from the first Academy

“There were 10 students in the Academy last year, and 5 remain in the tannery – says Perullo -. Almost all of them are over 30 years old: men and women with no experience in the field but with the wish of getting back into the game and chose this segment”. What’s particularly appreciated is “the continuity the sector guarantees – he adds -. The tannery can have some ups and downs, but in a full year there is a lot of work, and its fairly constant.

The course starting now will have 18 people and we hope to keep at least 10 of them, while hoping to retain them all”. Students of the first edition start with a temporary contract and have the chance to make it into full-time. “There are few training opportunities in the segment. Specific training opportunities are either done by a company or operators only become available after a couple years”.

Challenges

The training program of the Academy “will be oriented on three different sections: tanning, mechanic definition of semi-finished items, and chemical and mechanical processes on finished products”, explained the company in a note. Challenges? “This is hard work, from a physical and attention standpoint. You need competences and manual effort, along with other skills – concludes Perullo -. Moreover, our candidate pool is limited to the Comprensorio del Cuoio, because bringing outside workers to Santa Croce is challenging”.
