The contest was on its sixth edition, and quality was very high (as usual). Last week, during Lineapelle94, Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale, the consortium of Italian vegetable tanned leather, exhibited the prototypes made by 10 young fashion designers (coming from 9 international schools), who participated in the Craft The Leather creative contest. A technical board, composed of experts, along with visitors at Lineapelle94 and online followers, who could express their vote on the consortium social networks, contributed to the final assessment of the works. The winner was a young British fashion designer: Heleen Sintobin, a student from Central Saint Martins, who presented a collection of home furnishings named The Tartufo Collection. Takumi Yoshida, from Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry, was the runner-up; third best Chantal Maes, from SASK Sint Niklaas. Such were the five assessment criteria: “Creativity relevance to the intrinsic qualities of vegetable tannage; innovative use of vegetable tanned leather; aesthetic top quality; manual skills and abilities in product manufacturing; coherence and harmony in the collection”.
